19/10/2021

Climate change and related problems also affect the Statutory City of Hradec Králové. Therefore, the city commissioned the creation of the Adaptation Strategy for the Statutory City of Hradec Králové. Thanks to this document, the city will be better able to respond to the changes already underway and will also be well prepared to address the significant effects of climate change that are yet to come. The results of the analytical part of the adaptation strategy were presented by the authors during a discussion with the public at the end of September, the second public hearing will take place on 26 October at the City Hall of Hradec Králové.

The first presentation of the Adaptation Strategy for the Statutory City of Hradec Králové took place on September 29, 2021, when the representatives of the experts in the company Atregia s.r.o., presented the analytical part of the document.

First, a working group met, consisting of experts from the processor, external experts, and representatives of the City of Hradec Králové. Then, a hearing with the city representatives, experts, and the general public was held.

After the presentation of the analytical part of the adaptation strategy, the debate began. The public asked representatives of the city and experts about the strategy itself, the ongoing survey, and practical results.

Speakers reiterated that the public has the opportunity to participate in the creation of an Adaptation Strategy for the Statutory City of Hradec Králové, through an online survey. Until Sunday, October 17, 2021, it was published on this website, and also the official website of the Statutory City of Hradec Králové. More than a hundred respondents took part in the survey and the results from it will be an important input for creating a strategy. The experts will work with the information mainly in the design part of the document.

The document is based on satellite data, which defines the main threats related to climate change in the city and its surroundings.

The strategy aims to reduce the temperature during heat waves, improve water management, decrease the effects of drought and improve water retention in the landscape and built-up area (rainwater management in the city, energy savings). It will propose specific actions and other measures that arise from identified threats and needs of the city.

The result of the Adaptation strategy for the Statutory City of Hradec Králové will be a clear and feasible plan, which will serve the representatives of the city and the citizens as a professional and practical manual for the near future.

This project is supported by a grant from the people of Norway.

The second public hearing on the Adaptation Strategy for the Statutory City of Hradec Králové will take place on 26 October 2021 from 3.30 PM to 6.00 PM in the meeting room of the City Hall of Hradec Králové.
